Miss T - Camp Director

Miss Ellen

Miss Ellen

Hello! I’m Miss Ellen! I’m from Spokane, Washington and next year I will be going to Western Washington University to study Microbiology. One day I hope to be able to study cells in a lab. I’ve been involved with Camp Sweyolakan for over 10 years and been working with kids in many capacities for over 5. Working at this camp has been a dream of mine for a long time, I love this place and I’m eager to show kids the beauty of the area and make sure they have a fun summer! I love Doctor Who and if I could have any power it would be the power to stop time!

Miss Kaitlin

Miss Kaitlin

I’m Miss Kaitlin! I have attended Sweyo for many years and am so excited to be the Echo Unit Director this year. I am from Spokane and attended Lewis and Clark High School. I am finishing my junior year at Western Washington University where I study Music Education with a choral emphasis and Political Science, and work as a Resident Advisor in the residence halls. I am also a very active member of the WWU Women’s Ultimate Frisbee team and am looking forward to attending nationals in May! I am so thrilled to come back out to camp this summer for some of my favorite activities, high ropes, cliff jumping and tippy tests, but mostly because I love the kids! I hope to work in the secondary school system teaching music (and maybe a little government) and I see this as an invaluable opportunity to work with high school age kids, learning from them just as much as they are from me and having a blast!

Mr. Erebus

Mr. Erebus

Hey everyone! I’m Mr. Erebus, and I am very excited to be teaching archery this year! This will be my 12th year at Sweyolakan. Over the years it has become truly my home away from home. This Fall I will be attending Montana State University to study field ecology and management, to help me hopefully secure a future in the wildlife management profession. My experience working with children has mostly come from participating in the CIT program here and the following internship. I look forward to teaching the campers how to perfect their archery skills, and to develop new ones. I’m so glad that I get to finally give back to the camp which gave me so much joy throughout the years!

Mr. Chris

Mr. Chris

Hey everyone! I’m Mr. Chris, and I am super excited to be at camp this year! I currently live in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, but I will be moving to Moscow to attend the University of Idaho where I will be studying history and Spanish with the hope of eventually teaching middle or high school. This summer will be my 11th year at camp, and very first on staff! Most of my experience with kids has come from my time as a CIT and an intern here, but I have also taught a class of elementary school students Spanish, and volunteered in several classrooms. I chose to work at camp this year because some on the best memories I have are from Sweyolakan, and I want to make sure that campers can have the same experiences I had for many years to come

Miss Bingo

Miss Bingo

My name is Miss Bingo! This will be my second summer at Camp Sweyolakan, and I am super excited! I was born in Spokane and moved back to the area a couple years ago, after graduating college. I love the area and I'm happy to be back! I enjoy being outside and having fun, and camp is the perfect place for that! When I grow up, I want to do something outdoors, so being at camp is great. If I could have any super power, it would be shape shifting. The possibilities would be endless! I hope to teach campers that being outside and experiencing nature can be lots of fun. I feel it's important to appreciate the outdoors, and camp is an excellent place to do that!

Miss Pixie

Miss Pixie

Hi! I’m Miss. Pixie! This will be my first year on staff at camp Sweyolakan and my 10th year at camp, and I’m super excited to be coming back this year as handcrafts specialist. I have lived in Spokane Washington my entire life, in the same house believe it or not! I have been a part of Camp Fire for 13 years now going to both camp Dart-Lo and camp Sweyolakan; I was a volunteer staff member at Dart-Lo for one year, and continue to do work out there with my Camp Fire club. With my Camp Fire experience I would have to say that I have been working with kids for at least 5 or 6 years now, whether it be out at camp, running my own Camp Fire club, and just all the different activities my club and I set up at Dart-Lo, I also completed both Jr. and Sr. CIT’s out at Sweyolakan as well as an internship. I think if I could have any super power it would be invisibility…or maybe flying…or to be able to read minds…it’s really hard to pick just one! When I grow up I’m going to go into the medical field, and plan on studying to become an ultra sound tech. at Spokane Community College this upcoming fall. This summer I hope to teach kids creativity and to have confidence in themselves and others. This summer I chose to work at camp because it is like a second home for me, full of magic and wonder. I want to give kids the same experience I was given during my time as a camper, and to give them the chance to make friends and memories that will last a lifetime.

Miss Zord

Miss Zord

Hello! I am Miss Zord and I am looking forward to working at camp Sweyolakan this summer. I am from Spokane Washington and I am currently getting my AA degree at Spokane falls Community College with hopes of going to Evergreen state college in the coming years. I have not decided on a degree yet but as of this moment I am considering intercultural relations. I also have a lot of interest in child psychology, philosophy and music. If I were to have a super power I think I would choose shape shifting so I can turn into fluffy animals whenever I want. I have been going to camp Sweyolakan for 12 years and this will be my third year working there. I also went through the CIT (counselor in training) program at Sweyolakan and I have gone through the CA (counselor assistant) program at camp dart-lo. Besides that I have done face painting and arts in crafts at numerous fairs. I also have a lot of experience with children who have disabilities. I hope to have a lot of fun experiences working with campers and to help them grow as people. Camp has always been a wonderful experience for me and has helped me grow as a person. I was taught responsibility, teamwork and patience through all the years I have grown up here. I want to give back to this place that helped raise me and give the same experience I had to all the campers that are lucky enough to experience this wonderful and enriching environment.

Miss Megan

Miss Megan

Miss Megan is excited to be on staff again after a seven year hiatus. She lives in CdA & works as a counselor at Fernan Elementary. Miss Megan discovered her spark of working with kids as a CIT live-in in the Alpine unit 15 years ago & has fanned that spark into a flame by becoming a school counselor. This summer she will be working as the camp Administrative Assistant. She is looking forward to learning the business side of camp while still teaching a swimming lesson or two. She wishes she had the super power of not sleeping so she could have more time to play trumpet & read, two of her favorite hobbies.

Miss Bootz

Miss Bootz

Hello all! I’m Miss Bootz and this is my second year working at Camp Sweyolakan. I’m originally from the Seattle area and moved to Turlock, California about six years ago. I currently attend Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington where I am working towards a BA in English and a teaching certification for Secondary Education. This past semester I have been studying abroad in Florence, Italy, teaching in an Italian classroom and have been traveling around Europe. After college, I hope to join the Peace Corps and continue my traveling as well as working in the education systems of the countries I am placed in. I’ve been working with kids all my life but I’ve been working with them in classrooms for about three years now and have been volunteering through various programs since middle school. This summer, I hope I teach campers to be confident in their truest selves and to believe in their own self worth. I also hope to give them guidance through tough times and instill leadership qualities that they will continue to foster for the rest of their lives. I chose to work at Camp Sweyolakan this summer because last summer I had some great mentors and an awesome experiences working on staff. This year, with some experience under my belt, I hope to have another wonderful summer with the kids that inspired me to come back. Finally, if I could pick any super power, it would be to read minds!

Mr. Dunham

Mr. Dunham

My camp name is Mr. Dunham; I was born in Sunnyside Washington. When I grow up I want to be a chef and open my own restaurant. I've never really "worked" with kids but there are kids everywhere I go, there are 2 kids at my mom's and a 1 year old baby, my sister has a 1 year old baby, and at my dad's there are my 2 little brothers. I chose to work at Camp Sweyolakan this summer because I wanted to get more experience working in a kitchen. I don't really know what I would teach the campers this summer since I will be working in the kitchen. If I could have any super power I would want super speed, because then you can go anywhere at any moment. Something interesting about me is I'm young but also really mature.

Miss Athena

Miss Athena

Hey all! I’m Miss Athena, and this will be my seventh year at camp and my first year on staff! I currently live in Wenatchee, WA, but I will be moving to Belgium in mid-late August (sadly missing the end of camp) for a Rotary Youth Exchange. When I come back to the states, I will be heading off to university. Right now I am looking most intently into the University of California, Berkeley, where I am hoping to study archaeology and anthropology. My work with kids includes my time at camp, babysitting, and several other volunteer educational/supervisory opportunities. I am super excited to come back to camp this summer and help to plant in kids a love of nature, adventure, and all things camp, just like my counselors did for me.

Miss Goob

Mr. Zolo

Mr. Zolo

Hey! I’m Mr. Zolo and I’m super excited to spend the summer at my favorite place! I’m from Spokane and am currently attending Western Washington University in Bellingham where I am studying Spanish, queer studies, and Canadian-American studies. This will be my 9th summer at Sweyolakan and I couldn’t be happier to be coming back again. My experience with children includes two summers as a CIT at Sweyolakan and one year working at Mobius Science Center in Spokane. More recently I have been working with an extraordinary group of 5th graders at Sumas elementary school in Sumas, Washington as part of WWU’s Compass 2 Campus program. I can’t wait to watch my campers grow and have the same amazing time at camp as I did when I was a camper. See you at camp!

Miss Layla

Miss Layla

Miss Jess

Miss Jess

Hi! My name is Miss Jess and I am very excited to be a part of Camp Sweyolakan this summer! I was born and raised in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. Right now, I am in Moscow at The University of Idaho studying chemical engineering and chemistry. I’m not sure what I want to do when I eventually grow up, I just hope I am happy with whatever path I choose. In just a few days, I will be running for president of U of I’s Society of Women Engineers. With the position, I hope to do a lot of outreach to the young women of Moscow in the elementary, middle, and high schools. I was previously a soccer coach for 6-10 year olds, and I absolutely loved it! I hope I can take my passion for learning and the outdoors to teach young campers why I love it so much! If I could have any super power, I would obviously choose to be Batman. There really is no one better. I am looking forward to everything this summer has in store for all of us!

Miss Maeve

Miss Maeve

Camp Name:Miss Maeve Something interesting about yourself: I broke my arm two years in a row at the same place on the same night. Where are you from: Tucson, Arizona What you hope to be when you “grow up”: an author If you could have any super power, what would it be and why? I would be able to teleport so that I could visit any place in the world at any time. How many years of experience you have working with kids and in what capacity? I have been babysitting since I was about twelve years old but the last year and a half of high school I was a nanny for a family of four kids (Ages 13, 11, 8 and 1). What you hope to teach the campers this summer? I hope to teach them to have fun no matter what and to always look at life with a positive attitude. Why you chose to work at Camp Sweyolakan this summer. The adventure!!!

Miss Rachael

Miss Rachael

Hi everyone! My name is Miss Rachael and I’m so excited to meet all the campers this year! I live in Pullman, Washington and I am a student at Washington State University. I am studying history and I hope to become a high school teacher when I grow up! I have been working with kids for about a year now. I volunteer at a pre-school a couple hours a week and I tutor middle school kids. This summer, I hope to teach campers that being outside and going on adventures is what summertime is for! I chose to work at Camp Sweyolakan this summer because I went to camp three summers in a row when I was younger and they are some of the best memories that I have! Lastly, if I could have any super power, it would be to be able to teleportation so I can travel as much as I want, whenever I want!

Miss Drew

Miss Drew

Hello my name id Miss. Drew! I am really excited to spend another summer at camp. This will be my third year as a counselor. Something interesting about me is I really love sports! Basketball and soccer are my favorites but I will pretty much try anything. I am from Spokane WA and have spent most of my life there. I am currently attending Spokane Falls Community College and will be graduating with my AA degree this upcoming fall. I am not quite sure what I want to be when I grow up, maybe an explorer or a coach or a shoe designer. I am just not sure. I want to try out everything! If I could have any super power I think I would want to be able to teleport. I would go all over the world whenever I felt like it. I have been working with kids since I was in high school. While in high school I helped with a lot of sports camps and after I graduated coached a 5th-6th grade basketball team for two years. Then of course I have worked at Sweyolakan for two summers and am looking forward to my third. This summer I hope to teach my campers all about camp and how to have fun in the outdoors. I chose to work at camp this summer to have fun with campers old and new and to make memories that will last a life time at my favorite place!

I currently attending North Idaho College and majoring in psychology. My dream is to be a middle school councilor when I grow up. I have been working with kids since age 12, being a babysitter, 4-H, and function at the middle school and elementary schools. I choose to work at camp Sweyolakan this summer because it will be a great experience for me considering the career path I am on. If I could have any super power it would be to shape shift, who doesn’t want to be a mermaid, or a unicorn?!

Mr. Justin

Mr. Justin

Hello! My name is Mr. Justin and this will be my 11th year at camp and my 2nd on staff. I am from Spokane, Washington and I currently go to Spokane Falls Community College. I love sports; both playing and analyzing them and someday I hope to major in Communications and become a writer/analyst for ESPN. Of course that is a lofty goal and it is a long way down the road, so for my summers I go to camp to give kids a summer that they will always remember. Camp is about enjoying the outdoors and having fun. Camp is for the campers and if they aren’t having fun, I’m not having fun. I chose to work at camp this summer again because I want to give back to the place that gave me so much for nine summers. I want other kids to have the chance to call camp home for the summer. I am definitely looking forward to another great summer at camp!

Miss Elf

Miss Elf

Hello there! You can call me Miss Elf, and I’m this summer’s Outdoor/Nature Specialist at Camp Sweyolakan. I’m so excited to share my love of the Earth with everyone at camp! I’ve been camping and practicing outdoor skills since I was young, mostly in Ohio where I grew up. I went to a summer camp in Oregon a couple years ago, which inspired me to attend wilderness programs for four months last year and finally move out West like I’d dreamed. I’m currently a student at North Idaho College, hoping to join the Outdoor Leadership program this fall. I’m so excited to be a part of Camp Sweyolakan because it combines my love of teaching kids with my love of nature! I know it’s going to be a great summer! And if I had a super power, it’d be a tie between invisibility and teleportation… or both. Both is good. Then I could observe the goings-on of the world and cause mysterious and surprising events.

Miss Willow

Miss Willow

Mr. Hollywood

Mr. Hollywood

Hey guys! My name is Mr. Hollywood. I’ve been going to Sweyolakan since I was five years old and this will be my second year on staff. I hope to show campers that they all have an inner potential to do great things in this world. I chose to work at Sweyolakan because this camp and the counselors before me have shown me what I can do if I put my mind to it and it’s only fair that I give back. I was born in LA, moved to Coeur d’Alene when I was five. Something interesting about me is that I’m a double major and double minor in psychology, sociology, communications, and Spanish. When I “grow up” I will be a member of the LAPD and hopefully end my career and a crisis negotiator. That being said, if I had any superpower, I would turn into a penguin because penguins are the best and nobody hates on a penguin when it slides on its belly.

Miss Alia

Miss Alia

Hi, I’m Miss Alia and I can’t wait to spend another summer at Camp Sweyolakan. I was born and raised in Spokane, Washington but I’ve been living in Minneapolis, Minnesota for the past three years and I love it. Right now I am studying history and maybe when I “grow up” I’ll do something with that, but I am still figuring out what I want to do (yikes.) Because I love to travel, if I could have any super power, I would want to be able to speak any and every language. Yes, this includes being able to talk to animals. I’ve been working with kids for about six years, now. I’ve worked at Sweyolakan as a counselor and unit director for four years, I was a CIT for two and an intern as well. On top of that, I’ve worked with kids in a nursery in Zambia and at Mother Teresa’s first home for children, Shishu Bhavan in Kolkata, India, for extensive periods of time. I’m coming back to Sweyolakan for another summer because it’s one of my favorite places in the world and because I am passionate about learning while having fun. As a camper and staff member, Sweyolakan is where I made most of my closest friends, met some of my mentors that have changed my life and gained confidence in myself. That’s what I hope to share with campers— a fun experience where they can grow, learn, feel confident, make memories and enjoy a wonderful place.

Miss Fortune

Miss Fortune

I’m Miss Fortune and I’m so excited for my 1st year as a camp counselor! Having gone to Sweyolakan 3 years as a camper and 2 as a CIT, I really feel it’s my summer home! I can’t wait to help campers learn wonderful things about themselves like how kind they are, how strong they can be, and how everyone can be a friend. Now for who I am! I grew up in Spokane and can’t wait to go to college in New York in the fall. When I grow up I want to be a psychologist and learn about our minds. My superpower would be mind reading so I could bring people together and learn about different points of view. Something interesting about me is that my family has 20+ cows, 5 chickens, 7 rabbits, 6 dogs, 3 cats, 2 donkeys and 1 horse.

Miss Michelle

Miss Michelle

I’m Miss Michelle and I’m a currently an active member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority at Eastern Washington University I’m also on the Eastern Track and Field team! I’m from Selah, WA and when I grow up I want to be a strength and conditioning coach. If I could have any super power it would be to be able to teleport because I love traveling and history. I’ve worked with kids for about 8 yrs. now for VBS. I hope to teach campers how to be strong and confident in themselves! I chose to work at Camp Sweyolakan this summer because I saw it as a great opportunity to give to my sorority philanthropy.

Miss Nakita

Miss Nakita

Hi guys! My name is Miss Nakita! This is my first year at this camp, but I have gone to a Girl Scout camp for almost 13 years now. I have two years of consoling experience. I am a senior in high school, and I kind of have a clue of where I am going after wards, which are either University of Idaho or go into The Peace Corps, to study in Tanzania Africa. So that’s a little about me . 

Miss Colleen

Miss Colleen

Hello! I'm Miss Colleen and I'm beyond excited to be the Programming Director this summer at my favorite place in the entire world. This will be my 15th summer at camp, my 6th year on staff. My mom went to camp, my 4 sisters went to camp, and now my nephews even go to camp! What I love about camp is its ability to defy the societal laws of the outside world, giving kids a safe haven to explore and test their own limits in a safe, fun and empowering environment. I'm so excited to return this summer after a 4-year hiatus. I got my bachelor's from the University of Washington in Seattle, where I'm from, in American Indian studies. Two days after graduation, I drove my car to Virginia to work at a newspaper as a visual journalist. I'm leaving my big girl job to return to the place I love before figuring out what I want to be when I grow up again, likely something with working with youth. I've been getting into glass blowing and I would love to start a program teaching glass blowing to at-risk youth. In the meantime, you can expect some pretty crazy antics from me this summer! Looking forward to all of it :)

Camp Staff

Counselors, lifeguards, activity specialists and support staff come from diverse backgrounds, much like the campers they serve.  National background checks are just the beginning.  Staff are carefully screened and selected for their desire to work with campers in the outdoors, ability to teach and lead, as well as be positive role models.  Laughing and having fun with campers is also an important quality of staff.  All staff receive intense training before the camp season begins, as well as ongoing support throughout the season.

Accreditation

Camp Sweyolakan and Camp Dart-Lo are in compliance with hundreds of standards and regulations as required for accreditation by the American Camp Association an various government agencies.  Our camps meet of exceed these standards in all areas (health and safety, program, transportation, qualifications of staff, food service, sanitation and site/facility).
