We have completed phase one of this project, working closely with Kootenai Building and Planning: we increased the size of the pipeline and replaced the old galvanized pipe with plastic – and placed it below the frost line – all before snow flew in December!

Phase two of our renovation project will replace seven bathrooms as we raise enough money. Total project cost is approximately $1.2 million. 

We have two foundations that made a generous offer to help us reach our goal: The New Opportunities Family Foundation presented a challenge grant in the amount of $25,000, which we met in their time frame. The Henry Day Neewahlu Trust, founded with half of the proceeds from the sale of Camp Neewahlu in 2003, will match the next $75,000 of contributions. Camp Fire USA is very fortunate to have these two organizations willing and able to assist us.

It is our desire to keep the rustic, natural atmosphere of Camp Sweyolakan - not only for our campers’ experience - but also to preserve our neighbors’ views as they enjoy the lake. However, as you can imagine, the bathrooms must be improved so we can continue to attract and retain campers.   We are applying for grants and have a fundraising/ marketing plan in place to look for dollars from many different sources. Many local business owners are offering in-kind labor and materials too.

We are also offering naming opportunities for those who would like to take advantage of the opportunity to engrave your name, family name or the name of a loved one on stepping stones leading to the bathrooms/showers ($500), tiles in the sink areas ($100) or a large stone dedication for $25,000. 

If you donate $1,500, we will also send an at-risk child from North Idaho to camp. Any amount you gift us will be matched so you will be doubling your investment!
