Junior Leadership Program – Camp Sweyolakan @ Camp Sweyoloakan

This program has an application process – Application is on our website.  Application must be completed for further consideration for this program.

Upon receipt of ALL required items (application and a reference, your application will be reviewed and successful candidates will be notified of acceptance for the program. Should a candidate not be placed or not complete the application process prior to the program filling, the deposit will be returned or may be applied to another session.

The Junior Youth Leadership program is a three-week course completed during the first half of the summer season.  It focuses on leadership skills: communication; teamwork; setting goals and achieving them; decision making; problem solving; developing strong relationships with others; developing increased confidence; and conflict resolution. The leadership skills you gain will be used in all parts of life, including home, school, sports, youth groups, work, and community.

Following successful completion of the first year of the Youth Leadership program, participants return the following year as a Senior.

Camp Sweyolakan sits on nearly 300 beautiful wooded acres on the shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene at the mouth of Mica Bay in Northern Idaho. One of the oldest resident camps in the country, Camp Sweyolakan has been a summer haven for generations of young people since 1922!

People, young and old, can relax and enjoy learning about themselves and the world around them in the beautiful setting of the lake, mountains and forests. Enjoy all the great activities on the water, cooking out over a campfire, archery and so much more.

Training in camp program skills, behavior management, camper characteristics, teaching skills and a “hands-on” experience with a camper group.

Camp Dart-Lo Off-Road Kids’ Triathlon @ Camp Dart Lo

 Deadline to register June 25 <> Shirts and medals are only guaranteed for those pre-registered. Late Registration fee is $30 up to the day of the event.

  • This is a non-timed fun event for kids; Grades K-7. GREAT beginning triathlon.
  • Distances:
    • Lap Swim: 25-400 meters; distance based on age and ability; younger and inexperience swimmers are welcome to swim or play in the rec pool.
    • 1 mile bike ride on gravel road
    • .75 trail run
  • Participants must provide swimwear, bike and helmet, and sturdy shoes for trail running.
  • Start times will be in waves beginning at 6 p.m. Waves will start with the youngest triathletes first, moving up in age approximately every 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Please be checked in and at the pool area ready to go by 5:45 p.m.
  • Parking is in the main Dart-Lo parking lot. Participants and spectators will be walking approximately .5 mile to the pool.  Spectators will walk back to main camp along the bike route.  Please wear sturdy shoes.

Re-experience Camp Dart-Lo this summer with this series of celebrations for all ages! Reconnect with friends, re-explore the 51 acres, and reminisce around the campfire. Please pass on the message, mark your calendars and join us in celebrating Camp Dart-Lo’s 70th birthday all summer long:

Dart-Lo’s 70th Birthday Party

July 18

11 am – 4 pm, Free. Lunch will be available for purchase.

Dart-Lo’s Birthday Party will feature camp activities, scavenger hunt, archive display and of course…birthday treats! Camp Fire Alumni have the option to camp overnight, including dinner, a night hike and breakfast the next morning. $50 family of 4, $10 each additional guest or $15 for individual adults if registered by July 1st. $5 late fee after July 1st. Camp-out participants bring their own camping equipment. Please wear closed shoes and leave pets at home.

Family Night Out – June 29

5:30 – 8 pm

Free. $5 lunch optional, pre-registration LINK

Tour the camp, make crafts, play games and visit the Trading Post. Bring a picnic or join us for the BBQ from 6-7pm ($5 per person, pre-register). Please wear closed shoes and leave pets at home.

Kids Off-Road Triathlon – July 9

Sign in at 5:30 pm, Race starts at 6 pm.

$25 if registered by June 25th. $30 after June 25th and day of event Registration Link

Kids’ Off-Road Triathlon, sponsored by Team Blaze Spokane Triathlon Club,is a fun fitness event for kids ages K-7th grade.

Bunco Party  – July 31

7 – 10 pm, $20 per person.

Ages 16 and up. If you haven’t played this fast paced dice game before, we’ll teach you how in less than 5 minutes. Limited to 40.

Swim & Sing Karaoke Night – August 5

7 – 9 pm, $5 per person or $25 for an immediate family household. Open to the public.

Take an evening dip in the pools and then hit the “stage” to sing your favorite songs.

Jubilee – August 14

2:30 – 4 pm, Free and open to the public.

Celebrate our campers’ accomplishments over the summer with songs and skits and close Dart-Lo’s 70th season.

The focus of the Senior Leadership program, in an environment of fun, is to develop skills that will make you a great camp counselor and a competent leader of children in any venue! Skills will include communicating with children, listening, teaching positive behavior and values, handling and understanding behavior and conflicts in positive ways, leading games and activities, and teaching outdoor skills. You will also learn about camp operation, the role and duties of camp administrator and staff. These skills will be valuable in any career that you choose!
