Ceremonies
Fly-up Fly-up is our annual May ceremony for Little Stars and Starflight clubs. Little Stars going into Kindergarten follow the path into Starflight and 2nd graders cross over a bridge and "fly-up" into Adventure. We sing songs, do skits, candy sellers receive their trophies and leaders may give their year-end emblems. We learn about the beads, their color and a description of each. Beads are part of the curriculum in Adventure. This is also a time when all clubs have the opportunity to share what they've done during the year. Refreshments are served afterwards.
Grand Council Fire is our annual May ceremony for Adventure, Discovery and Horizon clubs. The Wohelo recipients are presented with their Wohelo Award, 8th graders cross over the bridge into Horizon and 5th graders cross over the bridge into Discovery. Membership tenure emblems are given as well as a Senior Emblem to all Seniors. We sing songs, give feathers, give emblems and flowers, give away candles, candy sellers receive their trophies and leaders/advisors may give their year-end emblems. Adventure-level clubs sit on the floor around a "fake" fire to form a council ring, so bring your sit-upons!!! Clubs in gowns sit in chairs behind the Adventure clubs. Refreshments are served afterwards.
They are both wonderful celebrations for your club's year end. There is a flag presentation, candle lighting and songs. There are many traditions honored that make these very fun and special for all. Special emblems are given at both ceremonies. We incorporate many clubs with duties of all kinds
If you would like to volunteer your club for any
of these duties, please e-mail or call Stacey at the Camp Fire office.
These duties are a great experience for your club kids and prepares them
for bigger and better things later.
The Wohelo Reception is a wonderful ceremony honoring the recipients for that particular year. It is hosted by the Wohelo Committee. The Wohelo Committee consists of wonderful volunteers that help high school youth earn the Wohelo Award, the highest youth award. (See below for the Wohelo Award description).
There is a flag presentation by a club and candle
lighting by the Board of Directors. Special community guests are invited
to speak and give special awards. The recipients receive a flag that has
flown over the United States, letters from many government officials and
letters from the principal of their school who is also invited to speak.
They also receive many other special items. It is held at different places
throughout the city. Refreshments follow.
