Sweyolakan Outdoor Experience

Grades 8 & up

Meet your Sweyolakan Outdoor Adventure Staff

All levels of experience are welcomed on most of our courses offered through Sweyolakan Outdoor Experience. If you have never slept outside then we will teach you. If you have more experience, then we will teach you to lead a group of your peers.  While in camp, you will stay in the historic boxcars in the Sailors unit.  Please note that these weeks cannot be combined with Extra Spicy Options.

Program Overview

Our Sweyolakan Outdoor Experience program offers opportunities for learning basic and advanced camping skills in a variety of outdoor activities: cooking and baking in the back country, map and chart reading skills, and creating low impact shelters. In addition to learning camping techniques, each camper will learn minimum impact camping based on the seven principles of Leave-No-Trace®.  Each camper will receive an Outlook Evaluation of their skills development so that they realize and appreciate what skills they have learned, which ones they excelled at and which ones they could improve upon. We will keep a copy of Outlook Evaluations from year to year to track individual progress of returning campers.
